The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

This note wil not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing person's name, it will happen.

If the cause of death is specified, the person will simply die of heart of a heart attack.

After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

Ratio Yagami (Kira)

Ratio Yagami is the perfect student, son, and brother. He does everything right never getting into any kind of trouble. Ratio is bored with life. Nothing good ever happens to him. Then he finds a Deathnote (rules for use above). He decides he's going to use the Deathnote to create a new world. He begins to create his by killing off criminals in Japan. Ratio uses his high intelligence and extreme manipulation, to play a game of cat and mouse with the Japanese police. I have to say...I have a whole new way of thinking now that I've read this manga. It's a real mind flip. It's hard to really pinpoint Ratio's persona;ity. In the beginning of the story, he's just an innocent kid. But as it goes on it's almost as if the deathnote changes who he is. Like he craves the murders he's commiting. I'm rooting for Kira...But at the same time L has such a high level of intelligence...man this manga pulls you along for a rough ride.

L (Ryuuzaki)

L is The top investigator in all of Japan. Trouble is nobody knows what his face looks like. L's personality tens to be very straight forward and like that of a child. He is always doing something (like eating very large amounts of sugar...yet he is so calm...very strange...) Without trying to be L is an enigma. We know nothing about his childhood, or his life before the story takes place. What we do know, is that L is one of the only ones that stand in Kira's way.

Misa Misa (2nd Kira)

Misa is a model with the eyes of a shinigami. Normally the words "dangerous combination" would be going through your head...but not when it comes to Misa. She's intelligent, but I guess when you compare her to Ratio she's quite dumb. She gets Ratio into a lot of trouble and sometims I just want her to die. But on the other hand, having the eyes of a shinigami without having to cut half of your own life, isn't so bad. Misa is Madly in love with Ratio, she'll do anyhing he say's. I almost feel bad for her, he leads her on and yet he feels nothing for her but she believes in her heart everything she deos she is doing to help the man she loves. It's kind of sad really when you think about it. Maybe she'll have a happy ending. Or maybe...she'll get smart and choose someone else...nah. ^^

Ryuk

Ryuk is the shinigami (God of death) that dropped the Deathnote into the human world. Which he did, because, like Ratio, he was bored. Ryuk has an obsession with apples. He'll do anything for apples. He says he's not on Ratio's or L's side but when it comes down to apples he'll deffinately makes a choice ^^ (hint hint). He says he's not on anyone's side but throughout the story most of the most important things happen just because of something Ryuk does. He plays a very key role in the battle between L and Kira.

Remu

Remu is Misa Misa's God of Death. She loves Misa...a little more than she is supposed to...don't ask me, I have no idea...anyways. Her love for Misa causes her to dislike Ratio, but not out of jealousy. She knows that Misa is in love with Ratio and she see how all he is doing is using her. To say the least the relationship between Remu and Ratio can be tense at times...^^

Watari

Watari works for L. He is the only one in the wolrd (i guess) who knows what L looks like. Not much is known about Watari except that he owns an orphanage that cares for children with no parents or homes to go to.

Near

Near and Melo were in the orphanage together. Like all the other characters, Near is obsessive about something too. Toys. He's always playing with some king of toy. Robots, life size cities, all crashing together...fun times. Man. These people. Near leads the investigation in America (no, he is not American, he is Japanese. L leads the investigation in Japan so he had to lead it in America) I don't know what it is that's so obvious abour Ratio being Kira...but Near suspects that he is the man we are all looking for...so there is some tension involved between the Japanese police and the American police once Ratio becomes a member of the investigation team.

Melo

What is there to say about Melo? He loves chocolate. Almost every single time you see Melo he is chewing on a bar of chocolate. I haven't really figured out why...It's just as bad as L with his tea and sugary things, or Near with his toys. Anyways... back on topic. Melo lived in the orphanage with Near. (it's hard to talk about this without giving too much away...) Melo hates Near with a very severe passion. He is on a "quest" to get the Deathnote. In my personal opinion, I think that Melo wants the Deathnote because of Near. Not to get it for him though. I think he sees it as a race. He wants to get the Deathnote before Near can lay his hands on it.

Aber

Aber is an old associate of L's. He pretends to be one of L's alias's to get follow a lead on Kira. Not much is really known on him other than that. He plays a vital role in the story.

Weddie

We aren't told very much about Weddie, but we do know that she has worked with L before and he has gotten her out of some kind of trouble. To be honest, Weddie doesn't do much for the story line, except expose a certain truth. Otherwise....she wouldn't get to be on my site...Aren't I nice?
